Leaking over 12 months
$28,992
30.2% of a full year of revenue โ $79 a day.
- Customers who leave
- $24,960
- Declines never recovered
- $4,032
Assumes a flat baseline: no new customers, no expansion. Churned revenue is counted for every month it stays missing, which is why it grows faster than the failed-payment line.

Put in four numbers
MRR, monthly churn, the share of charges that fail, and how many of those you recover.
- 02
See the twelve-month cost
Churn is counted for every month it stays missing, so the figure is the real one, not one month's loss.
- 03
Fix the cheaper leak first
Failed payments are already-won revenue. They are almost always the faster half to recover.
About Leakmeter
Two leaks drain a subscription business, and founders fix them in different places. Involuntary churn is a card that declines and is never retried โ that revenue was already won, it just never arrives. Voluntary churn is a customer who leaves, and it compounds: someone lost in January is missing for the other eleven months too.
Leakmeter counts both against a flat baseline โ no new customers, no expansion โ because that answers the only question worth asking: what does the current rate cost me over the next twelve months if nothing changes?
Questions
- Why is the churn number so much larger than the failed-payment number?
- Because churned revenue keeps costing you. A customer lost in month one is missing for twelve months, month two for eleven, and so on. Declines are counted once each, in the month they happen.
- What counts as a good monthly churn rate?
- For self-serve B2B SaaS, under 3% monthly is healthy and over 5% is usually the reason growth feels flat no matter how much traffic you add.
- Do you store what I type?
- No. The whole calculation runs in your browser. There is no request, no account and no email field.
